Three minutes past nine (chapter four)

“Oh grandpa is thst how you got that scar on your left arm?” “Yes that’s right, the doctur had to do an operation on my arm.” “Oh gosh grandpa!was it sore?” asked Toby feeling that ha’e got the most bravist grandfather in the world. ” No chicken, they got special medicine, it made me numb so I couldn’t feel the pain and it also made me fall asleepwhile they were operating on my arm.” “Ok grandpa you can get back to the story now.”

Ten hours after the operation, I woke up feeling the sharp pain in my arm. Mother’s pale worried face was the first thing that I saw. She cried in delight as she saw my eyes opening. “Oh Tommo. You worried me to death. I’m so glad you’re awake now. I’ll be back in two minutes, I’m just going to call your Uncle Tommoand tell him that your awake. So he can stop worring.” Mother kissed my forehead and told me “Ok love, I’ll let you rest.” Time passed slowly as I waited for the morning to begin. The pain in my arm seemed to have gotten stronger and stronger by the second. Finally dawn arrived. Mother and the doctor seem to be here very early. By the shade of the sky, I know it would be around eight. I wish I had my watch with me so I can tell what time it is. The doctur checked my arm, his cool fingers seemed to ease down the pain. It felt nice. The doctur nodded twice and turned to face my Mother.” The operation seemed to be very successful, he need to rest. By the look of this he could be out……..next month.” Mother’s face lit up” Oh thank you , thank you doctur. you’ve been very generas.” mother smiled in delight. “No problem ma’ma, just doing my job.” The doctur turned around and told me. “Little man, you need some rest. I’ll be back tonight for another check-up.”

Two to nine (chapter three)

“So kids how’s the story so far? Oh, I think little Mary has drifted off to sleep.I think we should save the story for another night. Is that all right?” no grandpa, please don’t stop. we want to hear more.” “Ok but when Martin fall asleep, Toby you’re off to bed.” “Hey what if Toby falls asleep first?” “Well then you’re going to bed Martin and keep the volume down. Ye are going to wake up your sister up.”

It was the day of my tenth birthday.Uncle Tommo took me outside into the shed. He switched on the lights and took something out from his pocket and it seemed to glow at a dim golden colour. His still tone was slow and dull as he spoke.”Tommo, this was your fathers and now it is yours. Promise me to take good care of this.” I nodded, it seemed to slip through his fingers but it landed safely into the palm of my hand. uncle Tommo patted my head and said”Happy Birthday kiddo!” he wished me cheerfully but I know him too well to get fooled by his acting. I know that he still blamed himself for the cause of my father’s death. He turned and strolled back into the house. I stood there stillas a stone as my feet were stuck to the ground. I stared at the watch emotionless. The watch had a dim golden shine and was slightly rusted around the edges. After a little while, I put it in the pocket of my jacket then slowly turned and walked backed inside the house. A few days later Mother asked me wether I had any washing. I picked up my jacket and the watch fell out of the pocket. I had compleated forgotten about it. Just like the first time it seemed to glow at a dim golden colour. I picked it up and dropped it in my grandmothers box, I didn’t bother to closing the lid and then ran down the staires to give mother my jacket. Mother giggled as I slipped down the staires with a thud. It made me happy to see her smile, she haven’t smiled ever since grandmother died. I giggled with her until I felt a thudding feeling in my left arm. My giggles slowly turned into sobbs. mother fell down on her knees and asked” Tommo!are you alright?” “No, my arm is really sore.”I answered in pain. “Oh! We need to get you to the hospital, fast!”

Quarter to nine (chapter 2)

“Wait, wait, wait granpa. Can I go to the potty?” “Ha,ha,ha.of course my child. we will wait but you must hurry.Dont forget to wash your hands.(Cough,cough,cough).” “Grandpa are you ok?” ” I’m fine my child, dont worry about me.Are we ready now?” “Yea grandpa. The hall is really cold.” “Ok, make sure your comfy.”

. . .

It was the last day of school, we were getting ready for our Christmas holidays. In a few more days it would be my tenth birthday.I was very excited.Mother and I went shopping for presents and I told Mother what I would like for my birthday.I woke up during the night of Christmas eve, hearing the soft sobs of Mother coming from Grandmother’s room.I picked up my torch and slowly creeped across the creeky wooden floor of the hall.I slowly opended the door of my Grandmother’s bedroom and peeked in ,to see what was going on in there. It was a horrible sight to see,as my Grandmother said her last words.I stared at my Grandmother as she slowly said those upsetting words. It was unbearable for me to watch but for some unknown reason,my eyes were glued to her face as she said.”Molly…….I’m trusting you with Big Joe and the rest the family. Please don’t let me down. Remember,I will always love you no matter what happens.Stay stro….”she never finished her last word before she left us on her last journey to find my father.Who was awaiting for her arrival in a wonderful place we like to call Heaven. The shock of seeing my Grandmother die released my grip on the handle of the door.Slowly I walked back to my bed.I lay there restlessly thinking about what had just happened and watching as those horrible scenes played in my head over and over again.I knew that I must have drifted off to sleep because when I oppened the curtains, the roofs on the houses were covered with snow.As I weakly strolled down the stairs where I found all of my family staring blankly into space.A few minutes later, mother stood up,her words were weak and dead.As she half-whispered to me “take this and keep it.I know that your grandmother would have wanted you to have it.”I stared at the empty box not truly understanding what it ment.It felt like years had past as it was the day after my Grandmothers funeral and the day that Big Joe went missing. And so the search for Big Joe began.Days past and there was still no sign of Big Joe.One evening Mother realised It was like a recurrence of what had happened eighteen years ago.She almost screamed when she realised it.She ordered to check the church tower immediately.Uncle Tommo sprinted to reach the church tower. He climbed the dreaded staircase, worried about what he might find when he reached the top.He got to the top and found Big Joe lying there peacefuly.Uncle Tommo tried to wake him but it was to late. There was one ring of the church bell then it turned silent.People came out of their houses, happy and full of joy as they heared the bell, but after the first bell there was no continuation.Peoples’faces fell.I started to panic.I looked around, asking people”whats happening?”but nobody would answer my frantic question, they just shook their heads and turned away.I knew something went terribly wrong.I ran to the church tower in horror. As i got closer and closer to the church tower,I heard cries from my Uncle Tommo, coming from the top.My speed never slowed and my feet never stoped I ran up the staircase and noticed tears were streaming down my face.I tried to tell myself it was all a misunderstanding, they were all wrong. It was going to be ok,at this point I was screaming. When I got to the top,I found Uncle Tommo cradling Big Joe in his arms. When I felt the tears streaming down my face for the second time, this time I couldn’t control them because now I know that they were right.Big Joe was dead and there was nothing I could do to change it.

Half past eight (Chapter one)

“Ok little ones time to go to sleep!” “But grandpa, it’s only half past eight. Mother let us stay up until half past eleven. Could you tell us a bedtime story. Please! Please! Please!” “Ok children, calm down, calm down. Will you promise to go to bed after the story?” “Yes, yes we promise to go to bed straight after the story.” “Ok well it goes like this.”

. . .

Well it all started when my uncle Tommo came home from the war. He told the dreadful news to my Mother, how my father really died. I was only a baby at this time as Mother heldme in her arms with a tear in her eye as she said.”I’m sorry, I’m so sorry that your father can’t be here to see you growing up to be a healthy young man.” As I was growing up, this woman who is suppouasbily my great grandmother but known well as grandma bwolf or wolf woman. She was in and out of our mumbling how much my father deserved it. Although we tried not to listen but it still hurts me to hear such terrible things about my father. She cursed him alot. She would say how disgraced she was to be part of this family. By the time I was five and perparing to go to school she was long gone, I’m delighted to say. She died giving birth to a monster who is always bulling me. His name is Colonel, his new title is”The Colonel”. Because his dad crashed into a tree and died. That’s how Colonel got his new title. The Colonel’s funeral took place a week before the school started. On my way to my first day of school, I was really nervous until my uncle Tommo told me about his first day of school and how badly treated he wes by Mr. Munnings and how he met a wonderful girl in Mis Mc Allister’s class, who later turned out to bemy Mother. When I got to school I was told that they had retired. My new teacher’s name is Miss Mc Munnister. She has long brown wavy hair with big browneyes and a small button nose. Her face was pale highlited by her ruby red lips. I wonder how well I could get on, in her class.

A diary entry

Dear diary,

I’m so happy today! Tommo came to see me with a letter from Charlie. My mother told him to leave but I met him at the brook afterwards. I told him all about what my mother said and that I can never see them again. Tommo gave me the letter and he told me to meet him later without Tommo. I told Tommo to tell him I said yes and nothing else. I really want to Tommo to know but I don’t want to hurt his feelings.

A letter to Molly

Dear Molly,

I would have loved to fire you after what just happened. But I think you deserved getting put out on the street more. If you do the slightest thing wrong I will fire you. I feel I must warn you about that thief, Charlie Peaceful. He abused the trust of the handsome, gorgeous, manly and brave Colonel. He is a thief and is one not to trust.

Best regards,
Charlie and Tommo’s grand aunt.

A letter

Dear Tommo,

I can’t believe Charlie is alive! I was really upset when I thought he was dead! You must be thrilled! By the way please don’t be angry with Charlie for going home. It isn’t his fault he’s leaving and he deserves a break after all that’s happened to him. Also are you in love with Anna because it sure looks like it?! I think you love her and I think she loves you too! Anyway I got to go. Bye!

Love,

Rachel
