“Wait, wait, wait granpa. Can I go to the potty?” “Ha,ha,ha.of course my child. we will wait but you must hurry.Dont forget to wash your hands.(Cough,cough,cough).” “Grandpa are you ok?” ” I’m fine my child, dont worry about me.Are we ready now?” “Yea grandpa. The hall is really cold.” “Ok, make sure your comfy.”
It was the last day of school, we were getting ready for our Christmas holidays. In a few more days it would be my tenth birthday.I was very excited.Mother and I went shopping for presents and I told Mother what I would like for my birthday.I woke up during the night of Christmas eve, hearing the soft sobs of Mother coming from Grandmother’s room.I picked up my torch and slowly creeped across the creeky wooden floor of the hall.I slowly opended the door of my Grandmother’s bedroom and peeked in ,to see what was going on in there. It was a horrible sight to see,as my Grandmother said her last words.I stared at my Grandmother as she slowly said those upsetting words. It was unbearable for me to watch but for some unknown reason,my eyes were glued to her face as she said.”Molly…….I’m trusting you with Big Joe and the rest the family. Please don’t let me down. Remember,I will always love you no matter what happens.Stay stro….”she never finished her last word before she left us on her last journey to find my father.Who was awaiting for her arrival in a wonderful place we like to call Heaven. The shock of seeing my Grandmother die released my grip on the handle of the door.Slowly I walked back to my bed.I lay there restlessly thinking about what had just happened and watching as those horrible scenes played in my head over and over again.I knew that I must have drifted off to sleep because when I oppened the curtains, the roofs on the houses were covered with snow.As I weakly strolled down the stairs where I found all of my family staring blankly into space.A few minutes later, mother stood up,her words were weak and dead.As she half-whispered to me “take this and keep it.I know that your grandmother would have wanted you to have it.”I stared at the empty box not truly understanding what it ment.It felt like years had past as it was the day after my Grandmothers funeral and the day that Big Joe went missing. And so the search for Big Joe began.Days past and there was still no sign of Big Joe.One evening Mother realised It was like a recurrence of what had happened eighteen years ago.She almost screamed when she realised it.She ordered to check the church tower immediately.Uncle Tommo sprinted to reach the church tower. He climbed the dreaded staircase, worried about what he might find when he reached the top.He got to the top and found Big Joe lying there peacefuly.Uncle Tommo tried to wake him but it was to late. There was one ring of the church bell then it turned silent.People came out of their houses, happy and full of joy as they heared the bell, but after the first bell there was no continuation.Peoples’faces fell.I started to panic.I looked around, asking people”whats happening?”but nobody would answer my frantic question, they just shook their heads and turned away.I knew something went terribly wrong.I ran to the church tower in horror. As i got closer and closer to the church tower,I heard cries from my Uncle Tommo, coming from the top.My speed never slowed and my feet never stoped I ran up the staircase and noticed tears were streaming down my face.I tried to tell myself it was all a misunderstanding, they were all wrong. It was going to be ok,at this point I was screaming. When I got to the top,I found Uncle Tommo cradling Big Joe in his arms. When I felt the tears streaming down my face for the second time, this time I couldn’t control them because now I know that they were right.Big Joe was dead and there was nothing I could do to change it.
